July 4th Events in Sugar Mountain and Nearby Towns

The Fourth of July- the holiday of celebration, patriotism, and magic in the skies.

Sugar Mountain knows exactly how to celebrate the heart of summer in style. They are so good at it, in fact, that they don’t just host one event around the summer holiday extravaganza, but five! That’s five more reasons to stay at one of our vacation rentals in Sugar Mountain for the summer season.

Blowing Rock, NC 4th of July Parade

Blowing Rock Fourth of July Festival and Parade

The Blowing Rock Parade is a blast of eccentricity for the Fourth of July holiday. The event runs the fourth, from 9 am to 10 pm. The event is a whirlwind of different activities, likes horseshoe tournaments, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contests, live music and more. Kids can enjoy the face painting and the climbing tower.

The event circles around the 2 p.m. Independence Day Parade. It is all right in downtown Blowing Rock, which is almost directly 30 minutes east of Sugar Mountain.

Banner Elk Fourth of July Parade

Alternatively, you can visit the frenzied family fun of the Banner Elk Fourth of July Parade. The parade starts at 2 p.m. and acts as the introduction to the “Party in the Park” at Tate Evans Park in downtown Banner Elk. Here you’ll find live music, ring tossing, and, most intriguing of all, the “Great American Duck Races.”

The event is all right in downtown Banner Elk on the morning of July fourth.

The Banner Elk parade may be a bit easier to get to compared to the festivities in Blowing Rock. It is only about a short run 10 minutes north of the Sugar Mountain Resort.

Tweetsie Railroad 4th of July Event

Tweetsie Railroad Fireworks Extravaganza

For something a bit different, we recommend the fireworks at Tweetsie Railroad. Tweetsie is an epic railroad park full of rides and an authentically-recreated steam train. This Wild West theme park is the perfect place to enjoy some good ol’ fireworks explosions.

The park opens at 9 a.m. While it usually closes by dark at 6 p.m. it stays open to 10 p.m. for the 9:30 fireworks on the Fourth of July. Tweetsie Railroad is located in Blowing Rock, NC, 300 Tweetsie Railroad Ln.

Sugar Mountain Fireworks

Looking for something nearby? The Sugar Mountain Fireworks offer anything you could ask for on America’s independence day: great food, music, big explosions.

Live music runs from around 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the lodge, though specific times may vary. At around 9 p.m. fireworks will launch spectacular over the 5,300 ft peak of Sugar Mountain.

The fireworks celebration is at the Sugar Mountain Ski Resort. A lift can carry you from the village to the resort starting at 10 a.m. If you are staying at any of our Sugar Mountain vacation rentals, you will have no problem getting and from this extravagant celebration.

4th of July fireworks in North Carolina

Mile High Fourth of July, from Beech Mountain to Banner Elk

The Mile High Fourth of July is an extension of Banner Elk’s own Fourth of July Parade.

The event is extended to the week preceding the fourth. You can find games, music, festivities, and more from June 29th to July 4th.

The event includes Beech Mountain and Banner Elk. Collectively, they deliver a series of fun activities for the whole week leading up to the Fourth of July. You can see Beech Mountain’s Fireworks on Saturday, June 30th following that morning’s annual Roasting of the Hog. There’s a performance at the Lee-McRae Summer Theatre as well as live music from the streets of both towns’ all week long.

The event culminates in the Banner Elk parade and fireworks on July 4th. Both towns are within a short distance of Sugar Mountain.

Fourth of July isn’t the only big seasonal draw for interested visitors. Sugar Mountain erupts again come October when the fall season kicks into gear and the winter backdrop starts to settle in. The Woolly Worm Festival is the perfect representation of this transition and is one of two amazing fall events on Sugar Mountain. The second is the German fervor and fun of Sugar Mountain Oktoberfest. Both give plenty of reasons to come back for a different season entirely.

We love Sugar Mountain- and we are sure you will too. Book one of our Sugar Mountain vacation rentals today and secure your journey to the North Carolina mountains, whether in the heart of summer or the cusp of winter.
