The Magic of the Sugar Mountain Oktoberfest

As one of the top events near Boone, NC, the Sugar Mountain Oktoberfest attracts thousands each year with its mix of local music, small community charm, and fall-themed activities for the entire family.

The event consists of a simple mix of food and fun that works well for entertainment, with vivid vistas and an impressive mountain backdrop in a festive atmosphere.

Visitors can enjoy vibrant local music, including a pleasing blend of bluegrass and country from the Harbour Towne Fest Band. They channel the rambunctious sounds of German Oom-Pah music – defined by a deep bass and uplifting energy.

The festival is immersed in Bavarian culture, from the food and drinks to the many outfits visitors come dressed in, including dirndls and lederhosen, German dresses and skirts.

Dine on the freshest bratwurst, sauerkraut, strudel, and pretzels and wash it down with Spaten Oktoberfest beer. That’s not all, for the kids and those who prefer more traditional cuisine, you’ll have your choice of hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes, soda, candy apples, cotton candy, popcorn and other festival foods.

There’s even a costume contest at 4 p.m. to bring home how important Bavarian culture is. There is no cost, all ages are welcome, and the prize includes some local Bavarian treats.

Another one of the main features of the festival is the Ski School Play Yard. Families can let their kids loose amidst the bounce houses and slides, tractor hay rides, corn hole, and water balloon tosses. The kid’s yard is locally famous for its highly-entertaining pumpkin bowling, in true Oktoberfest spirit.

The Sugar Mountain Oktoberfest grounds are surrounded by jaw-dropping views and quintessential October weather. The refreshing crisp in the air is the perfect backdrop for pumpkin season, and the transitional foliage ushers in another winter season.

It’s remarkably “fall,” one of the biggest major celebrations in the area, but one of many around this time of year, including the famous Woolly Worm Festival.
